Scope of Practice

I work with couples, individuals, and families to support increased authenticity and stronger relationships. Sometimes our lives aren't going the way we want them to and it takes some extra support to work through and make meaning of our experiences. Are you in a struggling marriage? Perhaps you and your partner are fighting a lot about the same things and nothing seems to get resolved, or your partner seems ready to leave the marriage while you want to keep it going. I can support you and your partner towards a healthier relationship by examining and shifting your difficult patterns of interaction towards patterns of connection and increased happiness. I also offer Discernment Counseling for those couples experiencing divorce ambivalence. Or perhaps you're seeking individual counseling. You may have recently lost a loved one, are struggling with finding meaning in your life, or your family dynamics are affecting you negatively. You may be anxious or depressed and not be able to get a handle on it. I can support you towards greater self-knowledge and an increased ability to cope with life stressors, and to shift towards how you want your life to be. I also offer support for families experiencing difficulties with communication and parenting. I can support you in building intentionality around shared values, as well as in implementing strategies for effective conflict resolution. My goal for all is to provide an environment where you will feel accepted and understood, yet challenged to engage in meaningful self-exploration.

Values and Philosophy

The following theories have been very influential in my work with clients. Humanistic theory - This approach addresses the deep human desire for purpose and meaning. I believe that deep within each person is a yearning for a purposeful and meaningful life. Family systems theory - This approach sees dysfunctional patterns of interacting as having their roots in one's family of origin. As these patterns are explored and understood, deliberate choices can be made to support a healthier way of being.

Therapeutic Technique and Methodology

I draw from a variety of therapeutic techniques to support you - a unique individual. Your goal in therapy is paramount in our work together. I use evidence-based practices (that is, research proven methods) in my work with you, including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and mindfulness, to support you in your goals. In my couples work, I utilize Gottman techniques along with emotionally focused therapy to address conflict and promote understanding and stronger relationships, and offer Discernment Counseling for those couples with divorce ambivalence.
