Scope of Practice

Age group treated: adults Couples therapy is possible on a case by case basis. Once weekly meetings are typical. While I am a psychiatrist, I do not prescribe medication in this practice. If I believe medication would be a suitable adjunct to our therapy, I will help you find a prescriber. Special areas of expertise: posttraumatic stress disorder anxiety disorders depressive disorders childhood trauma grief military trauma insomnia adult attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder yoga martial arts/Eastern thought substance use disorders bipolar disorder medical issues - psycho-onclogy, chronic illness, physical disability The following aspects of therapy in this practice are somewhat unique, but an essential part of our work together: Videotaping: Every session is videotaped for the purposes of improving my technique in helping patients, and for the patient's review to further their own understanding of themselves. Tapes will be made available if requested. Collaborative approach: Good psychotherapy is done with the therapist and patient as a team. I expect that the patient will be motivated to work together with me to obtain the goals of therapy to the best of our abilities All sessions are 90 minutes: While this may seem long, I have found that any less than 90 minutes prevents deeper work from happening. In the long run, it is more efficient to meet for this duration. This therapy should not last forever: the nature of short term therapy is exactly that. I aim for rapid improvement in patients, with their collaboration.
