Scope of Practice

I work with adults, couples, and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, addictions, life transitions, or relationship problems. I have brought my approach to therapy to a variety of populations: professionals, college students, soldiers, veterans, and homeless adolescents to name a few. In the past I have worked in outpatient clinics; inpatient hospitalization settings; and have written assessments for the courts on matters of child custody and forensic asylum. My experiences have fostered the belief that change can happen for anyone.

Values and Philosophy

I believe in adjusting my intervention to the need of the client I am working with. I offer a supportive framework where individuals can explore the conflicts and struggles they are facing. Therapy is a setting where a person can feel safe, and it should fit reasonably within one’s life and not feel like a strain. It is a time for reflection and thoughtfulness. While often emotional, I’m careful to help my clients feel deepened by this experience.

Therapeutic Technique and Methodology

I have a comprehensive and research based understanding of the symptoms, sources, and treatments of most major mental health problems. I believe I know what to look for and can offer a structured path to recovery. In treatment utilize three essential tools of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) that are well validated according to psychological research as conducive to recovery: Acceptance-Being able to accept situations one faces without self-criticism, self-doubt and blaming Mindfulness-Helping clients to recognize there is more to who they are than their negative or panicked thoughts. This can really help guide one to make thoughtful decisions. Values-Rather than setting short-term goals that may not be in touch with a greater meaning, I help my clients to strive to make changes because it is consistent with the person they want to be. In working with addictions, I utilize a Motivational Interviewing framework whereby clients can feel invested in recovery and not pressured. I also have many community referrals that can help solidify one’s efforts towards recovery and stabilization.
